Hello everyone,
It’s been a wild ride this year, and I wanted to take a second to reflect on this last decade. Now I know what you’re thinking, everyone is doing the “decade” thing, but this is significant for us because this year marked the 10th year of Static Age Productions.
This all started with a short doc about a good friend and since then we’ve had the opportunity to create and experience some really cool things! That being said, we’ve also had a number of failures; due to our own missteps or issues with subjects/clients/technology. My most notable failure being Of Mics and Men.
Without getting too into the weeds on that one, it was a very tumultuous time in my life during the course of trying to make that film (moving, buying a place, cars being totaled, major health issues, etc). By the time the dust had settled and I could get back into it, another production team showed up with the same idea…and a six-figure budget to make it happen. Needless to say, I know when to call something a loss and move on.
Admittedly that situation was devastating; amplified by the string of loses leading up to it, to the point I had considered shutting things down entirely. 2019 started strong with a few promos for a band and a short doc about them in the works. We did some social media videos for a local business and we also made 2 shorts; one with the University of Denver for their digital magazine and one for a travel doc competition (Pott’s). All the while, I had been trying to get a new feature film going. If this failed to take off, I was planning to shut things down and move on from filmmaking entirely…
